US Vice President Kamala Harris Arrives in Ghana on Three-nation African Tour

US Vice President Kamala Harris was given a warm Akwaaba as she landed at Ghana’s Kotoko International Airport on the first stop of her three-nation African tour.

She was welcomed at the airport by Vice-President of Ghana Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who led the government delegation including foreign minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

The US ambassador to Ghana Virginia Palmer and a group of schoolchildren carrying miniature flags of Ghana and that of the USA were also at the airport to greet Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff.

In her arrival speech, the US Vice President said her visit to Africa was intended to promote opportunities for economic development.

“In particular on this trip, I intend to do work that will focus on increasing investment here on the continent, and facilitating economic growth and opportunity, specifically in the areas of economic empowerment of women and girls, empowerment of youth entrepreneurship, digital inclusion and to support the work that must be done to increase food security, including adaptation to the effect of economic crisis,” Harris said at the Kotoka International Airport.

Harris is scheduled to leave Ghana on March 29 to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania before ending the tour in Lusaka, Zambia on 2 April.
